–auxiliary verb
1. simple past tense of may .
2. (used to express possibility): They might be at the station.
3. (used to express advisability): You might at least thank me.
4. (used in polite requests for permission): Might I speak to you for a moment?
Wheras, 'may' means similar;
1. (used to express possibility): It may rain.
2. (used to express opportunity or permission): You may enter.
3. (used to express contingency, especially in clauses indicating condition, concession, purpose, result, etc.): I may be wrong but I think you would be wise to go. Times may change but human nature stays the same.
4. (used to express wish or prayer): May you live to an old age.
5. Archaic . (used to express ability or power.)
Therefore His joy is possible for us to obtain, as He grants it as an opportunity, giving His permission to obtain it all to the fullest. He advises that we obtain it. He doesn't just want to give us His joy, He also gives us life. "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." (John 10:10) See, it's still all still our choice. He freely gives it, but we have to make the choice to accept it. He advises us to, he doesn't command us to. We are only commanded to 'love'. (along with the 10 commandments of course.) God has GREAT plans for our lives, and they will be great if we choose to accept, and live according to His will. We can forfeit or give up our 'spiritual abundance' if we choose to focus on our own needs and desires of this world, instead of choosing God's perfect will.
Spiritual abundance can be with us each and every day, not just today. To continually get blessed abundantly, we must continually seek the Lord FIRST and His righteousness above all things, choose to have His joy, life & agape love, and He will grant you what you truly need.
(Thanks J.Pickel for the reminder to do it 'continually'!)
BE BLESSED & BE A BLESSING!
