"God Has Work For You"

Day #48 - 'A Woman of Faith' Devotional
Verse: "Work hard, but not just to please your masters when they are watching. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart. Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people." Ephesians 6:6-7 NLT

NIV -"Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free."

MSG -"Servants, respectfully obey your earthly masters but always with an eye to obeying the real master, Christ. Don't just do what you have to do to get by, but work heartily, as Christ's servants doing what God wants you to do. And work with a smile on your face, always keeping in mind that no matter who happens to be giving the orders, you're really serving God. Good work will get you good pay from the Master, regardless of whether you are slave or free." (v. 5-8)

This was one of the memory verses we learned at our Vacation Bible School this past summer. It is truly a good reminder that the work we do is for God, not just for others or ourselves. We should always try to be a God-pleaser rather than a man-pleaser. God has work that He has for us to do, individually and corporately as the Body of Christ. We have a choice to make however, if we want to accept the challenge and work diligently, or reject the challenge and live lazily and full of sloth. Diligence is rewarded, as our verse above states, that the Master 'will get you good pay'. Sloth however, and other choices made through rejection of God's will and His ways will get us consequences instead of blessings.

Another verse in the Bible which is similar (which is actually the one we memorized for VBS) is found in Colossians 3:23-24... "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."
