OH CANADA!! Well as most of us know the Winter OLYMPICS 2010 are finished, and every country involved, did their best at pressing to toward the goal to win the prize... the GOLD medal. Somehow, even some of the SILVER and BRONZE medallists were still very unhappy. To the human eye, it seems, well come on, 2nd and 3rd in an event with 30 other people should make you very happy. I was saying that throughout the Olympics this year. "C'mon people, be happy, you medalled at least." Especially when fellow Canadians were dissing our athletes for coming in like 5th or later. 5 out of 30, is still really good...
However, they didn't make it all the way to their 'goal'!
Spiritually, and also physically, according to the verse in Philippians, our goal is to "win the prize for which God has called [us] heavenward." We will not be happy with a SILVER or a BRONZE in this case, for it means we have missed the mark. SIN came into the world to leave us 'tarnished' like the bronze or silver. When we sin, the devil tries to allow us to think its okay to disobey God. He likes to leave us that way, because sin separates us from God.
We need to stop allowing the devil to use his voice in our heads, and let God's voice reign in our hearts and lives. God still speaks, and it just takes a few minutes of listening sometimes. When God speaks, we need to act on it. We shouldn't have to stop and think, "Is that really YOU God?" We should "know His voice". ("To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers." John 10:3-5) There are other verses that follow, explaining that Jesus is our Good Shepherd, and he states, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one." (John 10:27-30)
Our 'goal' as humans here on earth, is to reach our goal heavenward, which is ETERNAL. We are running the race of our lives, and our goal is within our grasp. For at our 'goal' eternal life awaits us. Heaven is usually referred to by it's "streets of Gold". So c'mon 'athletes', GO FOR GOLD... PRESS ON! Everyone can win the 'GOLD'... if only you BELIEVE!

There will be STORMS, & rough spots, but He will make you Strong.

So finally one day, hopefully, after you've lived til' old
You can press on and win, your medal made of GOLD!
